Aujourd\u2019hui les navires sont \u00e9quip\u00e9s de syst\u00e8mes de g\u00e9olocalisation, autrefois navires de p\u00eache et de transport marchaient \u00e0 la voile. Si le vent \u00e9tait contraire ils devaient \u00ab\u00a0louvoyer\u00a0\u00bb dans le chenal, parfois de nuit, op\u00e9ration dangereuse en l\u2019absence de balisage.<\/p>\n<p>Depuis de nombreuses ann\u00e9es marins et armateurs demandaient l\u2019\u00e9tablissement d\u2019un feu. En 1840 le minist\u00e8re des travaux publics adopta l\u2019avis de la commission des phares sur la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9clairer l\u2019\u00eele Harbour. Ce sera le premier \u00ab\u00a0\u00e9clairage\u00a0\u00bb de la baie. Apr\u00e8s 3 ans de travaux, le phare de Harbour fut allum\u00e9 le 6 mai 1850.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019appareil d\u2019\u00e9clairage du phare situ\u00e9 sur la tourelle carr\u00e9e de 13m de haut fonctionnait \u00e0 l\u2019huile de schiste (p\u00e9trole). Le feu \u00e9tait fixe, blanc, le secteur rouge n&#8217;a \u00e9t\u00e9 mis en place qu&#8217;en 1899. Deux gardiens habitant dans le petit logement de 7m sur 7m attenant \u00e9taient charg\u00e9s de l\u2019entretenir. Autour de la maison, un d\u00e9barcad\u00e8re, un tout petit jardin et un muret que, selon la tradition orale, les gardiens ont eu le loisir de d\u00e9corer avec des coquillages. Un peu plus loin, un atelier r\u00e9serve qui n\u2019existe plus. Une visite \u00e9tait pr\u00e9vue toutes les deux semaines. Electrifi\u00e9 en 1977, il fonctionne aujourd\u2019hui \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9nergie solaire.<\/p>\n<p>Feu rouge et blanc \u00e0 occultation. Sur un rythme actuel de 4 secondes. En Bretagne, seuls un phare construit en 1692 \u00e0 la pointe Saint Mathieu et un autre en 1701 au cap Fr\u00e9hel existaient. Partout ailleurs, c\u2019\u00e9tait le noir et les naufrages incessants.<\/p>\n<p>Apr\u00e8s la cr\u00e9ation de la commission des phares en 1811, sous l\u2019impulsion de Leonor Fresnel, le premier projet d\u2019\u00e9clairage g\u00e9n\u00e9ral fut pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 en 1825. Il fut le point de d\u00e9part du programme de la construction de tous les grands phares, particuli\u00e8rement en Bretagne et gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 L\u00e9once Reynaud \u00e0 qui nous devons 131 phares\u2026et notre feu de port. Harbour sera le premier \u00ab\u00a0\u00e9clairage\u00a0\u00bb de la baie en 1850. Quelques ann\u00e9es plus tard, en 1853, des feux de port furent allum\u00e9s au Portrieux et \u00e0 Binic. Le phare du Grand L\u00e9jon fut mis en service en 1881.<\/p>\n<p>Pour faciliter la navigation, tourelles et bou\u00e9es furent plac\u00e9es dans le chenal dans la deuxi\u00e8me moiti\u00e9 du 19<span><sup>e<\/sup><\/span> si\u00e8cle. Today's ships are equipped with geolocation systems, but in the past fishing and transport vessels were under sail. If the wind was against them, they had to \\\"sail\\\" in the channel, sometimes at night, a dangerous operation in the absence of beacons.<\\\/p>\\n\n\n<p>For many years, sailors and shipowners had been asking for a light to be installed. In 1840, the Ministry of Public Works adopted the opinion of the Lighthouse Commission on the need to light Harbour Island. This was to be the first \\\"lighting\\\" of the bay. In Brittany, there was only one lighthouse, built in 1692 at Pointe Saint Mathieu and another in 1701 at Cap Fr\\u00e9hel. Everywhere else was in darkness, with constant shipwrecks.<\\\/p>\\n\n\n<p><\\\/p>\\n\n\n<p>After the creation of the lighthouse commission in 1811, under the impetus of Leonor Fresnel, the first general lighting project was presented in 1825. It was the starting point for the programme to build all the major lighthouses, particularly in Brittany and thanks to L\\u00e9once Reynaud, to whom we owe 131 lighthouses... and our harbour light. Le phare du Grand L\\u00e9jon fut mis en service en 1881.<\\\/p>\\n\n\n<p>Pour faciliter la navigation, tourelles et bou\\u00e9es furent plac\\u00e9es dans le chenal dans la deuxi\\u00e8me moiti\\u00e9 du 19<span><sup>e<\\\/sup><\\\/span> si\\u00e8cle.
