A 50 m\u00e8tres au-dessus du niveau de la mer, elle offre un panorama depuis Br\u00e9hat (au nord) jusqu&#8217;au cap Fr\u00e9hel (au sud).<\/p>\n<p>La surveillance et la d\u00e9fense du littoral ont toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 primordiales en Bretagne. Les dangers multiples venaient par la mer\u2026 souvent d&#8217;Angleterre !<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<hr>\n<h1>\n<p>Une batterie de canons\u2026<\/p>\n<\/h1>\n<div>\n<p>Depuis la fin du 17<span><sup>e<\/sup><\/span> si\u00e8cle, une batterie de canons est install\u00e9e sur cette pointe. La d\u00e9fense des c\u00f4tes est<b> <\/b>alors assur\u00e9e par des &#8220;milices garde-c\u00f4tes&#8221;. En 1756, ann\u00e9e de d\u00e9claration de la guerre de 7 ans au cours de laquelle France et Angleterre s\u2019opposaient, une inspection des d\u00e9fenses de la c\u00f4te est ordonn\u00e9e. Sur le plan aquarell\u00e9 dress\u00e9 \u00e0 cette occasion, on voit le premier m\u00f4le du Portrieux probablement juste achev\u00e9, une batterie de deux canons \u00e0 la &#8220;Priaut\u00e9&#8221; et la batterie de 3 canons sur la pointe du s\u00e9maphore accompagn\u00e9e d&#8217;un petit corps de garde qui devait \u00eatre flanqu\u00e9 d&#8217;un m\u00e2t de signaux.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/3-Plan_Caraman_1756.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<h6>Saint-Quay et le port de Portrieux &#8211; Marquis de Caraman &#8211; in &#8220;M\u00e9moire sur la Bretagne&#8221; &#8211; 1756\u00a0<br \/>Biblioth\u00e8que de l&#8217;Arsenal<\/h6>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Depuis Colbert, un service de vigie ou signaux de c\u00f4te existait pour surveiller et d\u00e9fendre le littoral. Une ligne continue de batteries, forts et corps de garde pouvaient th\u00e9oriquement communiquer par signaux optiques entre eux. <br \/>Apr\u00e8s la r\u00e9volution, Charles Depillon met au point un syst\u00e8me concurrent du t\u00e9l\u00e9graphe de Chappe plus simple et tr\u00e8s efficace. Un m\u00e2t de 12 m\u00e8tres, facile \u00e0 monter et \u00e0 utiliser, permet de communiquer avec les navires et d&#8217;un s\u00e9maphore \u00e0 l&#8217;autre. Les m\u00e2ts Depillon, r\u00e9partis le long de la c\u00f4te ont \u00e9t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s utiles notamment lors du blocus continental de 1805 \u00e0 1814.<\/p>\n<p>Le poste de signaux du s\u00e9maphore de Saint-Quay \u00e9tait \u00e9quip\u00e9 d&#8217;un m\u00e2t Depillon toujours en fonction au d\u00e9but du 20<span><sup>e<\/sup><\/span> si\u00e8cle.<\/p>\n<p>En 1858, l&#8217;ouvrage passe de l&#8217;administration des domaines \u00e0 celle des douanes qui utilisent le corps de garde comme poste arm\u00e9 pour les douaniers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/4-mat_Depillon-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<h6>Le m\u00e2t Depillon<\/h6>\n<\/div>\n<hr>\n<h1>\n<p>1860 : Le premier &#8220;s\u00e9maphore&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/h1>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/5-semaphore_1908_EBC101.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Deux ans plus tard, le terrain est acquis par la Marine et un premier b\u00e2timent est construit. D&#8217;un plan standardis\u00e9, il comporte une chambre de veille et la maison des guetteurs (des civils inscrits maritimes, et pour la plupart retrait\u00e9s) int\u00e9gr\u00e9e au b\u00e2timent.<br \/>Le s\u00e9maphore a pour mission de surveiller les abords des c\u00f4tes de la baie de Saint-Brieuc et les usages maritimes locaux de p\u00eache et de plaisance. Il fournit des avis m\u00e9t\u00e9o, communique avec les navires de passage et transmet les signaux de sinistre. <br \/>Sa station t\u00e9l\u00e9graphique utilisant le syst\u00e8me morse permet la communication des administrations maritimes entre elles. Elle est \u00e9galement au service du public.<br \/>Comme tous les s\u00e9maphores qui doivent se reconna\u00eetre de loin, il est blanc et de forme r\u00e9guli\u00e8re<\/p>\n<p>Deux guetteurs civils sont affect\u00e9s \u00e0 la man\u0153uvre du s\u00e9maphore et des appareils \u00e9lectriques ainsi qu&#8217;\u00e0 l&#8217;entretien des installations. Le poste est \u00e9quip\u00e9 des instruments suivants : barom\u00e8tre, thermom\u00e8tre, compas de rel\u00e8vement, longue vue, et de mat\u00e9riel t\u00e9l\u00e9graphique. Il est surmont\u00e9 du fameux m\u00e2t Depillon. A c\u00f4t\u00e9, un m\u00e2t de navire gr\u00e9\u00e9 avec corne permet de communiquer avec les navires au large au moyen des pavillons de signaux utilis\u00e9s en navigation. Il sert \u00e9galement \u00e0 donner des indications m\u00e9t\u00e9orologiques. Lorsqu&#8217;un coup de vent est annonc\u00e9, des boules noires et des c\u00f4nes qui en indiquent la force et la direction sont hiss\u00e9s sur le m\u00e2t.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/6-SQPX_AC22804.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Le s\u00e9maphore dispose alors d&#8217;un canon de signalisation. S\u2019ils aper\u00e7oivent ou qu&#8217;on leur signale un navire en difficult\u00e9 au large, les guetteurs hissent un pavillon noir sur leur m\u00e2t et tirent deux coups de canon \u00e0 cinq minutes d&#8217;intervalle pour pr\u00e9venir les hommes du canot de sauvetage. Le canon sert \u00e9galement \u00e0 avertir un navire qu&#8217;on a un message (optique !) \u00e0 lui transmettre.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>En 1895, les s\u00e9maphores sont class\u00e9s ouvrages militaires et le corps des guetteurs est militaris\u00e9 en 1897.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/7-1_chatelet_et_semaphore.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/7-3_Le-semaphore_sur_la_Pointe.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/7-4_SQPX_AC23101.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/7-5_SQPX_AC25904-1.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<p>Pendant la seconde guerre mondiale, les b\u00e2timents sont occup\u00e9s par les troupes allemandes qui construisent sur le terrain deux blockhaus toujours visibles.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Le s\u00e9maphore de Saint-Quay demeure en fonction jusqu&#8217;en 1950, les locaux sont ensuite mis \u00e0 disposition de l&#8217;inscription maritime (administration charg\u00e9e de l&#8217;enregistrement de tout le personnel navigant, des c\u00f4tes et de la r\u00e9glementation de la navigation). Ce sont les Hospitaliers Sauveteurs Bretons (HSB), association dont la mission est le secours en mer, qui \u00e0 partir de 1958 y assureront une veille de jour, d&#8217;abord en \u00e9t\u00e9 puis 7 mois par an, avec le concours de la Compagnie R\u00e9publicaine de S\u00e9curit\u00e9, la CRS 13 de Saint-Brieuc, pour la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 de la plaisance, de la p\u00eache et pendant les grandes mar\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>En 1973, la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Nationale de Sauvetage en Mer (SNSM) prend le relais, apr\u00e8s sa fusion avec les HSB. La veille de jour devient permanente toujours avec le concours de la CRS 13.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/9-Tronc-a-queter-pour-les-societes-de-sauvetage.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<hr>\n<h1>\n<p>Reconsid\u00e9rer la surveillance<\/p>\n<\/h1>\n<div>\n<p>A partir de 1970, la mise en service des premiers sous-marins nucl\u00e9aire lanceurs d&#8217;engins (SNLE) \u00e0 la base militaire de l&#8217;\u00eele longue \u00e0 Brest oblige \u00e0 repenser et \u00e0 renforcer le syst\u00e8me de surveillance des c\u00f4tes. <br \/>En 1978, le naufrage du p\u00e9trolier super tanker Amoco Cadiz au large de Portsall, provoque une \u00e9pouvantable mar\u00e9e noire<span><b>, <\/b><\/span>et \u00e0 la suite de cette catastrophe,<span> <\/span>la prise de conscience de la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de mieux s\u00e9curiser le trafic en mer. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><br \/>De nombreuses mesures mises en place\u00a0: r\u00e9organisation du trafic maritime dans le rail de l\u2019espace Manche<span><b>,<\/b><\/span> modification des modes de prise de d\u00e9cision pour des interventions de sauvetage plus rapides, meilleure surveillance des c\u00f4tes gr\u00e2ce aux CROSS (Centre R\u00e9gionaux Op\u00e9rationnels de Surveillance et de Sauvetage) , r\u00e9organisation du r\u00e9seau des s\u00e9maphores, coordination de tous les moyens de l&#8217;\u00e9tat agissant en mer, qu&#8217;ils soient militaires, affr\u00e9t\u00e9s, civils, priv\u00e9s ou associatifs comme la SNSM.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/carte-Amoco.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<h6>Lieu du aufrage de l&#8217;Amoco Cadiz &#8211; Portsall &#8211; 16 mars 1978.<\/h6>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/10-4_maree_noire.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<hr>\n<h1>\n<p>1980 : r\u00e9novation du b\u00e2timent<\/p>\n<\/h1>\n<div>\n<p>Dans l&#8217;intention de r\u00e9armer le s\u00e9maphore, la Marine r\u00e9cup\u00e8re le b\u00e2timent en 1979.<\/p>\n<p>Apr\u00e8s une premi\u00e8re r\u00e9novation, en 1985 d&#8217;importants travaux le transforment. Le b\u00e2timent d&#8217;origine est agrandi et une tour de 12 m de haut, semi octogonale avec chambre de veille panoramique, est construite. C&#8217;est celle que vous voyez. .<br \/>Elle est entour\u00e9e d&#8217;un portique rouge qui d&#8217;apr\u00e8s l&#8217;architecte doit, par sa forme, rappeler les pignons bretons, et par sa couleur blanche, redonner au poste sa fonction d&#8217;amer (point de rep\u00e8re sur la c\u00f4te fixe et identifiable pour la navigation)<\/p>\n<p>Le m\u00e2t de signalisation en bois, abattu en 1986, est d\u00e9sormais remplac\u00e9 par les m\u00e2ts et antennes radars qui surplombent la tour.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/11-1_semaphore_PATRIMOINE-87.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/11-2_arriere_actuel_PATRIMOINE-98.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/11-3_profil-actuel.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/11-4_guetteur_PATRIMOINE-73.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/11-5_PATRIMOINE-74.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/11-6_PATRIMOINE-89.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<h1>\n<p>Missions actuelles du s\u00e9maphore<\/p>\n<\/h1>\n<div>\n<p>Le s\u00e9maphore de Saint-Quay-Portrieux appartient \u00e0 la Marine nationale et fait partie de la cha\u00eene s\u00e9maphorique de l&#8217;Atlantique, dispositif de surveillance de l&#8217;espace maritime, a\u00e9rien et terrestre, militaire et civil qui assure une veille permanente 24h\/24.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span><\/span>Il surveille tout le trafic maritime en identifiant et suivant \u00e0 l&#8217;AIS (Automatic Identifiation System) tous les navires croisant \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 des c\u00f4tes pour d\u00e9tecter toute activit\u00e9 illicite ou \u00e0 risque.<\/li>\n<li><span><\/span>Il participe aux op\u00e9rations de sauvegarde de la vie humaine sous la direction des CROSS,<\/li>\n<li><span><\/span>Il diffuse un bulletin m\u00e9t\u00e9o pour la navigation, signale les avis de temp\u00eate,<\/li>\n<li><span><\/span>Il assure une veille \u00e9cologique (pr\u00e9vention des pollutions marines),<\/li>\n<li><span><\/span>Il apporte son concours aux autres administrations (Douanes, police des p\u00eaches),<\/li>\n<li><span><\/span>Enfin, il peut conseiller les navires sur la route \u00e0 suivre&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Si son r\u00f4le de transmission des communications a perdu de son importance, la veille littorale active demeure indispensable d&#8217;autant plus que les phares en mer ne sont plus gardienn\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/12_missions-PATRIMOINE-95.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/13_Fosit-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<hr>\n<h1>\n<p>Les guetteurs s\u00e9maphoristes<\/p>\n<\/h1>\n<div>\n<p>Pour assurer toutes ces missions, un chef de poste<span> <\/span>et une equipe de guetteurs de la Marine Nationale sont actuellement affect\u00e9s au s\u00e9maphore et assurent, en se relayant par quarts, une veille du lever au coucher du soleil. Cette veille peut devenir permanente 24h\/24 si les circonstances l\u2019exigent.<span><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/span>Ils sont charg\u00e9s \u00e9galement de l\u2019entretien du b\u00e2timent et des espaces verts.<\/p>\n<p>De statut militaire, les guetteurs s\u00e9maphoristes des deux sexes sont recrut\u00e9s entre 17 et 30 ans pour des contrats de quatre ans renouvelables et suivent une formation de
