Phares, tourelles et bou\u00e9es de signalisation n\u2019ont \u00e9t\u00e9 mises en place progressivement qu\u2019\u00e0 partir de 1850 (voir le panneau \u00ab l\u2019\u00eele Harbour et la Comtesse \u00bb). Naufrages et noyades \u00e9taient nombreux. Un rapport de ces ann\u00e9es recensait un naufrage toutes les 20 heures et des pertes de 1 400 hommes par an. A part quelques initiatives locales, rien n\u2019existait pour porter secours aux marins en difficult\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>La Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Centrale de Sauvetage des Naufrag\u00e9s a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9e en 1866, sous l\u2019impulsion de Napol\u00e9on III qui souhaitait la mise en place d\u2019un service priv\u00e9 centralis\u00e9 de secours en mer. Elle fonctionnait gr\u00e2ce aux dons et legs et avec des marins b\u00e9n\u00e9voles. C\u2019est encore le cas de la SNSM aujourd\u2019hui.<\/p>\n<p>Saint-Quay-Portrieux a \u00e9t\u00e9 une des premi\u00e8res stations cr\u00e9\u00e9es par la toute jeune SCSN, choisi comme \u00ab\u00a0port le plus favorable de la baie de Saint Brieuc pour lancer une embarcation \u00e0 la mer par gros temps\u00a0\u00bb. Aujourd\u2019hui encore son implantation est strat\u00e9gique gr\u00e2ce au port en eau profonde qui permet \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9quipage d\u2019appareiller facilement \u00e0 toute heure et facilite les \u00e9vacuations sanitaires.<\/p>\n<p>Elle a fonctionn\u00e9 sous les couleurs de la SCSN jusqu\u2019apr\u00e8s la seconde guerre mondiale, avec des canots de sauvetage \u00e0 rame et \u00e0 voile, actionn\u00e9s par d\u2019h\u00e9ro\u00efques marins b\u00e9n\u00e9voles. Le premier canot a \u00e9t\u00e9 lanc\u00e9 en 1867. Puis, les Hospitaliers Sauveteurs Bretons (HSB) ont pris le relais jusqu\u2019\u00e0 leur fusion avec la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Nationale de Sauvetage en Mer (SNSM) en 1967.<br \/>La SNSM est une association reconnue d\u2019utilit\u00e9 publique depuis 1970. Elle agit, sur appel du s\u00e9maphore, sous les ordres du Cross Corsen (Centre r\u00e9gional op\u00e9rationnel de surveillance et de sauvetage pour la zone Mont-Saint-Michel \u2013 pointe de Penmarc\u2019h) et de mani\u00e8re coordonn\u00e9e avec les stations d\u2019Erquy et de Loguivy. Elle intervient potentiellement aupr\u00e8s d\u2019une centaine de p\u00eacheurs professionnels, de 4\u00a0000 bateaux de plaisance, sans compter tous les petits d\u00e9riveurs et engins de plage. Un syst\u00e8me d\u2019astreinte permet d\u2019avoir en permanence une \u00e9quipe de 6 personnes pr\u00eates \u00e0 appareiller dans les 20 minutes. Ils acceptent<b> <\/b>les entra\u00eenements, les formations, et les visites m\u00e9dicales r\u00e9guli\u00e8res.<\/p>\n<p>Lorsqu\u2019un guetteur, depuis le s\u00e9maphore, aper\u00e7oit un navire en difficult\u00e9, ou lorsque le navire lui-m\u00eame lance sur le canal 16 de la VHF (Type de radio marine) un appel de d\u00e9tresse (\u00ab\u00a0mayday\u00a0\u00bb si les<span><b> <\/b><\/span>vies sont en jeu, ou \u00ab\u00a0panpan\u00a0\u00bb si la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 du navire est menac\u00e9e), le CROSS est alert\u00e9 et initie et coordonne toutes les interventions de sauvetages. Le s\u00e9maphore pr\u00e9vient la SNSM. <br \/>En mer, le sauvetage de toute personne en d\u00e9tresse est gratuit, mais l\u2019assistance au navire est facultative et peut donner lieu au versement d\u2019une r\u00e9mun\u00e9ration \u00e0 l\u2019assistant.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/18-Benevoles_station_St_Q_Px-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<h6>La station SNSM aujourd&#8217;hui &#8211; Equipe des sauveteurs b\u00e9n\u00e9voles.<\/h6>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Si l\u2019essentiel est bien de sauver les vies en mer, les missions de service public et de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 civile de la SNSM sont tr\u00e8s importantes \u00e9galement. A Saint-Quay-Portrieux, la participation \u00e0 la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 pendant la p\u00eache \u00e0 la coquille Saint-Jacques et les manifestations nautiques, la<span><b> <\/b><\/span>dispersion de cendres, les d\u00e9monstrations pour la pr\u00e9vention des risques et une douzaine d\u2019interventions dans les \u00e9coles chaque ann\u00e9e font partie de ses activit\u00e9s r\u00e9guli\u00e8res.<\/p>\n<p>Mais sans financement rien n\u2019est possible\u00a0! Comme l\u2019ensemble de la SNSM, le financement de la station de Saint-Quay-Portrieux repose essentiellement sur les dons priv\u00e9s. Il y avait 3 m\u00e8tres de creux, ils n\u2019avaient pas de combinaisons de survie, impossible d\u2019aborder ou de leur dire de se jeter \u00e0 l\u2019eau. La priorit\u00e9 c\u2019est les vies. Celle des marins et les n\u00f4tres. On ne prend pas de risques inutiles pour le bateau. Nous avons envoy\u00e9 des photos et des vid\u00e9os au CROSS pour qu\u2019ils d\u00e9cident, au bout de 30 minutes le CROSS a envoy\u00e9 un h\u00e9lico de Granville. Ils \u00e9taient deux, ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 h\u00e9litreuill\u00e9s. Le bateau est rest\u00e9 accroch\u00e9 \u00e0 sa drague. Lighthouses, turrets and buoys were only gradually installed from 1850 onwards (see the \\u201cHarbour Island and the Comtesse\\u201d sign). Shipwrecks and drownings were frequent. One report from these years recorded a shipwreck every 20 hours, and losses of 1,400 men a year. Apart from a few local initiatives, nothing existed to rescue sailors in difficulty.<\\\/p>\\n\n\n<p>The Soci\\u00e9t\\u00e9 Centrale de Sauvetage des Naufrag\\u00e9s was created in 1866, at the instigation of Napoleon III, who wanted to set up a centralized private sea rescue service. It was funded by donations and bequests, and staffed by volunteer sailors. This is still the case today.<\\\/p>\\n\n\n<p>Saint-Quay-Portrieux was one of the first stations created by the fledgling SCSN, chosen as \\u201cthe most favorable port in the Bay of Saint Brieuc for launching a boat into the sea in heavy weather\\u201d.
