Les navires caboteurs pouvaient arriver de jour comme de nuit, de nombreuses petites auberges permettaient aux \u00e9quipages de se restaurer. Un march\u00e9 aux poissons se tenait quotidiennement devant la chapelle Sainte Anne. L\u2019atelier du mar\u00e9chal-ferrant \u00e9tait tout proche. Entre 1870 et 1908, un grand four \u00e0 chaux a fonctionn\u00e9 au Portrieux pour les besoins de la construction. Il employait jusqu\u2019\u00e0 cent ouvriers dont certains \u00e9taient des marins revenus de campagne de p\u00eache. Pour l\u2019alimenter, du charbon en provenance de Swansea au pays de Galles et des pierres \u00e0 chaux venant de Regneville en Normandie \u00e9taient d\u00e9barqu\u00e9s au port et stock\u00e9s dans un grand entrep\u00f4t en bas de l\u2019actuelle rue Cl\u00e9menceau.<\/p>\n<p>Sur le port, le grand march\u00e9 hebdomadaire attirait la population des alentours. Il existe toujours le lundi matin. Les campagnes de p\u00eache rythmaient la vie du village.<br \/>D\u00e8s la fin janvier c\u2019\u00e9tait l\u2019enr\u00f4lement des marins, puis l\u2019\u00e9quipement. Les matelots touchaient une avance de l\u2019armateur pour se procurer linge, couverts, tabac, paillasse, v\u00eatements de travail huil\u00e9s, bottes-sabots etc. En m\u00eame temps, il fallait armer et avitailler les navires, gr\u00e9ement, instruments de navigation, sel pour les morues, vivres pour plusieurs mois, pharmacie de bord\u2026 <br \/>Mi-mars, c\u2019\u00e9tait le d\u00e9part pour cinq \u00e0 six mois de p\u00eache dont plusieurs semaines de travers\u00e9e. <br \/>En septembre ou octobre, c\u2019\u00e9tait enfin le retour des \u00e9quipages. Quelques navires partaient directement vendre le produit de la p\u00eache \u00e0 Marseille, en Italie, Espagne ou en Afrique du Nord. Ils revenaient juste avant la campagne suivante, charg\u00e9s de vin, savon, huile, sel, et par exemple, d\u2019un autel pour la chapelle !<br \/>En 1820, \u00e0 l\u2019apog\u00e9e de la p\u00eache \u00e0 Terre-Neuve, 10 navires ont quitt\u00e9 le Portrieux pour Terre-Neuve avec 550 marins \u00e0 bord. En 1872, 4 navires sont partis pour Terre-Neuve avec 93 hommes, et 11 pour Islande avec 240 hommes. Les armements pour Terre-Neuve ont cess\u00e9 en 1886, et la derni\u00e8re campagne vers Islande a eu lieu en 1920.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/16.jpg\" alt=\"Chapelle Sainte-Anne Saint-Quay-Portrieux\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">La Go\u00e9lette Le Martial partant pour Islande<\/h6>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Sur les photos ci-dessous on remarque que les Terre-neuviers sont de lourds navires qui emportent dans leurs cales des canots ou doris pour p\u00eacher. Les go\u00e9lettes islandaises sont fines et l\u00e9g\u00e8res. En 1863 le chemin de fer arrive \u00e0 Saint Brieuc. Les voyageurs d\u00e9sireux de se rendre au bord de la mer peuvent prendre une diligence qui les m\u00e8ne au Portrieux en cinq heures. Un peu plus tard, en 1905, le petit train des C\u00f4tes du Nord arrive en gares de Portrieux, devenu &#8220;Portrieux les bains&#8221; et de Saint-Quay en 1h30 seulement. Saint-Quay-Portrieux change alors de visage et se tourne vers le tourisme. H\u00f4tels et pensions de famille bordent le port, les villas se multiplient. Il fallait chercher l\u2019eau \u00e0 la fontaine, \u00e9gouts, eau courante et \u00e9lectricit\u00e9 ont \u00e9t\u00e9 install\u00e9s \u00e0 partir de la fin du 19\u00e8me si\u00e8cle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Les maisons des armateurs<\/strong>, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire de ceux qui poss\u00e9daient les navires, sont plus opulentes.<\/p>\n<p>Leur caract\u00e9ristique commune \u00e9tait d\u2019\u00eatre proches du port, avec vue sur les bateaux, afin de surveiller d\u00e9parts, arriv\u00e9es, chargements et d\u00e9chargements. You can imagine the streets crowded with carts and stalls. Coaster ships could arrive day or night, and there were many small inns where crews could eat. A fish market was held daily in front of the chapel of Sainte Anne. The blacksmith's workshop was nearby. Between 1870 and 1908, a large lime kiln operated in Portrieux to meet construction needs. It employed up to a hundred workers, some of whom were sailors returning from fishing trips. To fuel the kiln, coal from Swansea in Wales and limestone from Regneville in Normandy were unloaded at the port and stored in a large warehouse at the bottom of what is now Rue Cl\\u00e9menceau.<\\\/p>\\n\n\n<p>At the port, the large weekly market attracted people from the surrounding area. It still takes place on Monday mornings. Les matelots touchaient une avance de l\\u2019armateur pour se procurer linge, couverts, tabac, paillasse, v\\u00eatements de travail huil\\u00e9s, bottes-sabots etc. En m\\u00eame temps, il fallait armer et avitailler les navires, gr\\u00e9ement, instruments de navigation, sel pour les morues, vivres pour plusieurs mois, pharmacie de bord\\u2026 <br \\\/>Mi-mars, c\\u2019\\u00e9tait le d\\u00e9part pour cinq \\u00e0 six mois de p\\u00eache dont plusieurs semaines de travers\\u00e9e. <br \\\/>En septembre ou octobre, c\\u2019\\u00e9tait enfin le retour des \\u00e9quipages. Quelques navires partaient directement vendre le produit de la p\\u00eache \\u00e0 Marseille, en Italie, Espagne ou en Afrique du Nord. Ils revenaient juste avant la campagne suivante, charg\\u00e9s de vin, savon, huile, sel, et par exemple, d\\u2019un autel pour la chapelle !<br \\\/>En 1820, \\u00e0 l\\u2019apog\\u00e9e de la p\\u00eache \\u00e0 Terre-Neuve, 10 navires ont quitt\\u00e9 le Portrieux pour Terre-Neuve avec 550 marins \\u00e0 bord. En 1872, 4 navires sont partis pour Terre-Neuve avec 93 hommes, et 11 pour Islande avec 240 hommes. Il fallait chercher l\\u2019eau \\u00e0 la fontaine, \\u00e9gouts, eau courante et \\u00e9lectricit\\u00e9 ont \\u00e9t\\u00e9 install\\u00e9s \\u00e0 partir de la fin du 19\\u00e8me si\\u00e8cle.<\\\/p>\\n\n\n<p><strong>Les maisons des armateurs<\\\/strong>, c\\u2019est-\\u00e0-dire de ceux qui poss\\u00e9daient les navires, sont plus opulentes.<\\\/p>\\n\n\n<p>Leur caract\\u00e9ristique commune \\u00e9tait d\\u2019\\u00eatre proches du port, avec vue sur les bateaux, afin de surveiller d\\u00e9parts, arriv\\u00e9es, chargements et d\\u00e9chargements.
