The Saint-Quay fountain

The miraculous spring that is said to have healed Saint Quay’s wounds has always been venerated locally. Inhabitants went there for the curative virtues of its water. A first building dating from 1580, which had fallen into ruin, was replaced in 1862 by this one, built thanks to the rector of the time, Abbé Gicquel. The history of Saint Quay is engraved on its side. Today, the association Amicale des Moulin, Fontaines, Lavoirs regularly maintains it.

In 2010, a ceramic statue of Saint Quay by local sculptor Guy Gouret was placed in the fountain’s niche.

    DEVOTIONAL FOUNTAINS

In Celtic countries, “real” relics (springs, sacred stones…) are essential vectors for exchanges between humans and the divine. That’s why in Brittany there are so many fountains dedicated to saints, known as “devotional fountains”.

A few steps away, a little further north, on the strike of Fonteny, you’ll find the Sainte-Anne fountain, built in the 19thcentury and restored around 1960.
